Kid-Approved Healthy Snacks
We decided to play around with some kid-friendly snack ideas. We had three goals in mind: The snacks had to be nutritious, easy to prepare and most importantly, kid-approved. If your kids are like most, you know these goals are sometimes mutually exclusive. But we like a challenge, so we rolled up our sleeves and ventured into the kitchen. We think your little judges will like these tasty treats as much as ours did.
Salted Yogurt Dip with Fruits & Vegetables
Start with plain, low-fat yogurt. spoon it into a serving bowl. Top with a sprinkle of finishing salt. We used Salt Cellar Ginger Root Sea Salt for ours. It has a mild flavor, and adds just a bit of color to the yogurt. It also adds a nice little crunch. Serve with mini carrots, sliced cucumbers, celery sticks, apple slices, and strawberries. Kids enjoy helping in the kitchen, and are more likely to try something new if they help with the preparation. If you have a nylon or other child-safe knife, let them help with cutting. Cucumbers are a good place to start, as they are soft and easy to slice.
Oven Baked Sweet Potato Chips
Sweet potatoes are loaded with potassium and vitamin A. But don’t tell anyone.. just bake up a batch of these yummy chips and watch them disappear. Our Spanish Rosemary Sea Salt gives them the perfect touch of salty goodness, and the rosemary in the salt adds a nice bit of green contrast to the orange potatoes.
- 2 large sweet potatoes
- 2 tbsp melted coconut oil
- 1 tsp Spanish Rosemary Sea Salt
